•  Seth Bond: “Please pray for my mother. It was found she has cancer on her neck and will begin radiation treatment Monday.”

•  Jamie Burns: “Jan and I are asking for prayers for her mother who started chemo last night. Seeking prayers for strength and comfort for her mother, Janice Cottongrim, and the entire family.”

•  Canterburys: “Please keep little 9-month-old Maggie Bradley, who was born with severe genetic problems in your prayers. She is Jon’s cousin’s granddaughter. Maggie is in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, PICU. The doctor said yesterday when asked if she was getting any better that she is making tiny baby steps forward.” (Update from Maggie’s grandmother yesterday: “Maggie is in Room 411 – no oxygen or other wires!!!”)

•  Sharon Ditto: “So happy that Russell and Regina Ralston have a new grandson. Regina has seen some improvement from treatment in a clinical trial.”

•  John Kuhn Family: “Pray for one of Johnny’s instructors who is openly hostile to Christianity. Pray his eyes open to God’s love. Please continue to pray for the Waltz family as they walk through the unrelenting grief following the death of their son, Valient.”

•  Daniel Lewis: “Please pray for good results from a medical test I have scheduled tomorrow (Monday, September 19^th), and peace as I await results. Please pray for safe travel for our family on upcoming trips.”

•  Kathleen Lowery: “Please pray for my niece’s newborn son. Little Monroe, who is in Charleston, will be having open heart surgery later this week. Pray for the doctors and staff that will be ministering to him. Pray for his mommy and daddy to continue in hope in God.” (Update: “Doctors are doing more imaging so they will know exactly what to expect and plan for.” Please continue your prayers for his upcoming surgery.)

•  Please keep Tim McKee in your prayers as he is in Crestwood Hospital, Room 412. No visitors at this time. (Update from Joy Wednesday, September 21: “Tim is feeling so much better today after having the fluid removed from his lungs yesterday. Touch and go until today, but we have turned a corner. God is good.”)

•  Mike Porters Family: “Lora’s mother fell at home. She is very weak. My Indiana siblings are taking care of her in their home. Please pray for a full recovery.” (Update: Lora’s mother is doing better.)

•  Tom Reynolds: "Please pray for Sondra Law. She is at home under treatment for congestive heart failure." (Cards may be sent to Sondra at 4905 Holmes Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35816.)

•  Donna Roshell: “Continue to pray for my brother-in-law, Robert, and his family. He had another surgery Saturday morning (September 17^th) and will have another Tuesday (September 20^th) to amputate another toe. Also pray for my friend, Tamara, who’s having issues with her eyesight. She’s seeing double and having headaches.” (Update: Robert’s surgery went well. Please continue your prayers for his recovery.)

There is a sign-up list posted in the kitchen for those who would like to prepare food for our Campus Ministry’s FNL. If your family or LIFE Talk is preparing the meal for any of the weeks, they invite you to join them for the entire evening if you can and get to know our college students.

2.   Women’s Ministry (Library; Coordinators: Sue Underwood and Kim Story)

This class provides Bible-based content in a LIFE Talk setting and is set up to minister to women who are the head of their household and women whose husbands are not Christians. Women of all ages and situations are welcome who wish to participate in this ministry. The class is generally organized to alternate between Old Testament and New Testament books, topics, and ideas. However, prayer and sharing are also integral parts of the class. As participants begin to apply the teaching to their own lives, they are invited to openly share burdens with one another. This is so that others who have walked that path previously can share their own experience and wisdom in how to face that situation faithfully. While two ladies provide the principal oversight for the class, a number of ladies from within the class will be encouraged to lead individual sessions, usually a week or two at a time.

ASSEMBLY LESSON SERIES: THE CHARACTER OF GOD

If you’ve ever tried to describe what God is like, it can be difficult or even daunting. What do you say? Where do you start? What will you include or exclude in your answer?

When the people who wrote the Bible pondered the mystery of God, they consistently described God’s character in this way: “YHWH, YHWH, (that’s God’s name) a God who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, overflowing with loyal love and faithfulness.”

First introduced in Exodus 34, this description of God is repeated over twenty times in the Old Testament! The goal of this series is to explore and understand the nature (or character) of God as depicted in this powerful and repeated statement. For 8 weeks (September 11 – October 30), we’ll unpack how each of those characteristics not only shape the story of the scriptures but also the story of our lives.
