REJOICE

We rejoice with the angels over the birth of a new brother. Ken Tittle, a resident of His Way, was baptized Sunday, August 21st. Please welcome and encourage him.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Connie Binford: “Please pray for my sister, Lisa Marshall. She was hospitalized. They think it’s a kidney infection.” (Update: “She is released from the hospital. Doing better.”)

Kyearia Booker: “In need of prayers for my sister, Kamia, who is dealing with depression amongst other things. Pray that God keeps her sane and that she can get the help she needs.”

Lisa Cooper: “Please pray for a family friend, Bonnie Dunn, who is presently in clean up surgery following removal of her colon Saturday, August 27th.” (Update: “They had to go in 3 times because the massive infection was still killing tissue. The antibiotics finally overcame it. They have her vent down to 50% and she’s doing good on that. Vitals are good, but still not awake. They don’t seem to be concerned with that as long as she’s doing this well right now.”)

Chad Dickey: “Requesting prayers for my cousin who is in the ICU with a bad bacterial infection and is having to be on a ventilator.” (Update from Chad when asked how his cousin is doing: “Not good right now. They think it’s just a matter of time. Keep praying for the family.”)

Gukasz Kondracki Family: “Prayers for immigration and settling in the U.S. as we moved here from Poland. Prayers for peace and guidance.”

John Kuhn Family: “Please continue prayers for the Waltz Family following the death of their 21-year-old son, Valiante. He leaves behind a 2-year-old son. Also please pray for Jamie as she leaves the hospital to begin a new employment adventure tomorrow (Monday, August 29th).”

Johnny Kuhn: “Pray for the new school year to go well and for patience.”

The Law Family: “Please pray for EJ’s recovery and biopsy results.” (Update: “The cyst is benign. He’s good. Thanks for praying for EJ! We really appreciate it so much. We are so humbled, and extremely appreciative for all the love shown to us from everyone. It really helps during times like these.”)

Tom and Selwyn Reynolds: “Pray for pain relief for Jodi Moore (her legs) and pray for friend of Lisa Cooper, Bonnie Dunn, who had part of her colon removed.” (Updates: Jodi’s legs are still painful. See Bonnie’s update under Lisa Cooper’s prayer request.)

Please continue praying for Hector Cortez (husband of Rachel, David Nance's niece). Hector has multiple myeloma. Cards may be sent to him at 1921 Spring Hill Road, Knoxville, TN 37914.” (Update: “Hector has chosen not to do the radiation and chemotherapy. He has been doing a nutritional treatment program and has had very good results thus far. His pain is all but gone and he is walking again, even up and down stairs. He seems stronger and is improving daily. Thanks for your prayers! If God heals him from this, it will be an obvious gift of divine grace. The original oncologist gave him no hope of full recovery but only a bleak hope of prolonged chemotherapy, radiation and surgery plan to extend his life. The nutritionist has offered hope of full recovery. Now all they need is a doctor who will do testing to see how he’s doing.)”

Mothers-In-Waiting: Karin Bell (11/3), Marjie Nance (1/2/23), and Kat Nambo (2/2023).

ASSEMBLY LESSON SERIES: THE CHARACTER OF GOD

BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 11TH

If you’ve ever tried to describe what God is like, it can be difficult or even daunting. What do you say? Where do you start? What will you include or exclude in your answer?

When the people who wrote the Bible pondered the mystery of God, they consistently described God’s character in this way: “YHWH, YHWH, (that’s God’s name) a God who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, overflowing with loyal love and faithfulness.”

First introduced in Exodus 34, this description of God is repeated over twenty times in the Old Testament! The goal of this series is to explore and understand the nature (or character) of God as depicted in this powerful and repeated statement. For 8 weeks (September 11 – October 30), we’ll unpack how each of those characteristics not only shape the story of the scriptures but also the story of our lives.
