Central Family,

“You are wonderful!” A special thank you for all of our prayers, phone calls, cards, meals and warm fuzzies during my recent illness. I am feeling much better. However, please continue to pray that the source of the pain will be discovered and resolved so there is no reoccurrence. I remember you always when I pray with all kinds of requests and special favors because I have you in my heart.©

Last week on Our Journey, we talked about how we are spreading the fragrance of the knowledge of Jesus as we go about our lives in the world. Our key verse was 2 Corinthians 2:14:

…thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life.

This is a part of training ourselves to look outward and see the world as Jesus sees it. Then we should try to engage in a loving way. We should pray and ask, "What is my place in God's story at this time in my life?" Then take action to reach out to others. You will certainly find some folks who respond to your efforts in a positive way, eager to learn the good news of Jesus. Of course, there will be others who may feel threatened, and respond in a negative way. In either case, you will gain insight and learn better ways to contribute in God’s kingdom here on earth, and your light will shine brighter each day.

This week our key characteristic of the Outward part of Our Journey is Concern and Courage. Our memory verse is Jude 1:21-22, which reads:

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

As we reach out to others, some will doubt that we are sincere. They may doubt that God is “not far from any one of us,“ and that he wants us to “seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him.” (Acts 17:27). Don’t let that discourage you, and show mercy to their unbelief. Perhaps someday they will respond to the call. There are those among our congregation who took longer than others to respond.

Others may respond eagerly to the call of Jesus. They understand that their salvation is in jeopardy. They will be very thankful for being snatched “from the fire.” These brothers and sisters will help us all to understand what a grand and glorious gift we have in God’s mercy, and the salvation that comes through His Son.                              The Elders
