PRAYER REQUESTS

Ashley Baker: “I had a friend to pass away this week. I ask for prayers for his family. He leaves behind 3 young daughters as well as his mom. She is having a difficult time she has lost her 2 sons within 1 year of each other. Please keep this family in your prayers.”

Dr. Mike Brown: “My nurse practitioner's husband, B.J. Robinson, had a heart attack this morning (Sunday, September 13th) and will need surgery. I would appreciate prayers for him.”

Fritz Nelson: “We’re doing fine, except missing everyone.”

Bill and Carol Kuhn: “Bill's sister and Liz Audenaert's mother, Sally Mans, is not doing well. She has been in Huntsville Hospital for the past few days with an infection. Now that has cleared, but she is very weak. She will likely be transferred back to rehab today. We have been praying for her strengthening and healing, but are now praying for, if God wills, she be allowed to go home with Him soon. These are difficult words to say, but God knows what is best for her. Please pray for her and the family's peace and comfort. We were blessed to have been able to visit her in person, for the first time in months, these past few days. God is good. Thanks to all who will pray.”

Jim Norville: “Russ Cook was taken to ER Sunday, September 13th, with breathing problems due to COVID. Please pray!” (Update: Russ is at home doing better. Please continue to pray for him and Vickie as they recover from COVID.)

Louise Williams: “Update on my chronic cough: I have a sensory neuropathic cough (nerve damage). I am currently attending the Kirklin Clinic in Birmingham and will eventually have an injection in my neck to block pain from the damaged nerve that leads to the larynx.”

Our Shut-ins: Cindy Anderson, Amelia Biser, Jamie Cole, Russ and Vickie Cook, James Hall, Gail Jones, Sally Mans, Mike Porter, Johnny Powell, and Bill & Sherill Townsley.

Mother-In-Waiting: Mishaella Ryans (10/1), Jessica Ogle (2/4), and Allison Goad (2/7)

Our Missionaries: Denisovs & Rahimovs (Tomsk, Russia), Kishore Etwaroo Family (Port Kaituma, Guyana), Carlos & Linda Eguizabal (Juayua & Salcoatitan, El Salvador) & YOU (Huntsville Area)

THANK YOU

Dear Family,

There are not enough words to express to you all how much I appreciate your love and concern that you have shown to me and Jon. Your cards, texts, calls, gifts, and especially your prayers have meant so much. I’m doing much better, and thankfully Jon showed no symptoms at all. I especially want to thank Juanita for doing double duty these past two weeks. (She is amazing!) In accordance with the CDC guidelines, Jon and I plan on being back to work tomorrow. We have missed being with everyone. Please continue to pray for us and for Central.

Love,

Pat and Jon Canterbury

Thank you for that beautiful fruit and snack basket, delivered yesterday. We are really enjoying it. Also thank you for all your concern for us. Thank you for the calls, texts, meals, and grocery shopping. We are very slowly getting better.

Great to know that we are surrounded by such a caring family.

Russ and Vickie Cook

PLEASE SIGN UP

The campus ministry is resuming Friday Night Lives (FNL) this semester but with some new twists due to COVID-19. LIFE Talks, other groups, or individuals that provide meals for the event can either drop the food off at the building or bring and serve the food in the building. Masks will be required (and provided if needed) for both those serving and those being served. Gloves will also be provided for those serving. Those providing meals will need to “sign-up” via email rather than on a list posted in the building. Thank you in advance for helping our Campus Ministry.

HELP NEEDED

Since Happy Times is now back in session, help is needed on Sunday mornings after assembly to take down the tables and chairs in the Family Life Center. If you are able to help, please contact Gerry Binford 256-508-9407.

CENTRAL MARRIAGE RETREAT 2021

The February 2021 Marriage retreat is going digital! In lieu of having a fully in-person retreat, we are exploring options that will allow for multiple levels of social distancing. There will be more details to come, but for now, we would like to ask a few questions to all the married couples at Central. Below you will find six questions pertaining to your marriage. We ask that every couple answer as many of these questions as possible and submit your responses for possible use in our upcoming retreat.

Three ways you can submit your responses (please choose one)

1.      Utilize the Google Form provided below to answer the questions.

2.      Submit your answers in an email to Pat with the subject "MARRIAGE RETREAT RESPONSE"

3.      Film yourself and your spouse answering the questions and email the videos to Pat.

We would love to see all the married couples at Central share your experiences and responses to these questions.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS OCTOBER 1ST.

1.      How do you develop spiritually as a couple? List a few things that you do.

2.      How does your marriage serve as a ministry? List a few examples.

3.      What are some challenges that you have faced? How did you handle these challenges as a couple?

4.      How do you practice forgiveness and reconciliation with your spouse?

5.      How do you prioritize quality time and romance with your spouse? Share some examples of how you date your spouse.

Share a dream date you would like your spouse to take you on! What has been your most fun Covid-19 date?

6.      How do children, parents and extended family affect your marriage relationship? How do you keep your marriage the priority amidst managing these relationships?

FALL TERM 2020 CENTRAL ADULT WEDNESDAY NIGHT ONLINE CLASSES

(12 Weeks, with a Congregational Thanksgiving Devotional Planned on November 25)

The fall term is devoted to studies grounded in the Old Testament.  Classes begin on September 9th, and each class will be hosted online using Zoom. Fall Term 2020 Class Subjects

1. A Confident Faith (Ladies Class)

A ladies' class, led by various participants, will study the books of Ruth and Esther. Our goal is to develop—through practice—confidence in our ability to understand the Bible for ourselves. No commentaries! No purchased study guides! No celebrity teachers! Just a gathering of your average Christian women who seek to strengthen their faith by studying a text, praying for God's understanding, and discussing its meaning.

If you would like to participate, send an email to Pat Canterbury (pat(-at-)centralfamily.org), and she will add your name to the class email list as well as email the free study guide to you. It is often helpful to have a copy of the text that can be marked up. You can print a free copy of Ruth and Esther from Bible Gateway (www.biblegateway.com). If you prefer, Pat can mail you a copy of both the study guide and the Ruth and Esther text or you can pick them up at the church office. If you have questions about the class, contact Melinda Goad (256-426-1418 or familyway6(-at-)fastmail.fm). Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81356466276?pwd=UTZ4T09pYWV5VHV0WFNmbUk5dSs1Zz09

2. Hope in Troubled Times: A Study of 1 and 2 Chronicles

Have you ever been in a situation in which nothing seemed to go right? You’ve been promised that things are going to get better—much better—but everything around you seems dismal with no change for the better in sight? That is the situation of the Jews after returning from Babylonian captivity. Prophets have long predicted a glorious restoration. And yet, the nation remained occupied (and taxed!) by a massive foreign empire. The language had been turned upside down. And the structure at the center of their worship—the temple—seemed pitiful compared to Solomon’s original.

The book of Chronicles, or in the English Bible, 1 and 2 Chronicles, was intended to provide hope to God’s people in troubled times. This intent of this series is to take a core message from Chronicles—seeking the LORD—and show how this provides hope in our time as in theirs. NEW MINISTRY – DO YOU WANT TO BE PART OF IT?

For the last several months a small group has been creating and maintaining our live streaming and video production capabilities. As we begin to think about gathering together and moving forward, this group needs more people to help expand. If you have video production, computer skills or are simply interested in learning how to do these things, please contact Rodney Keeton at 256-520-9196 or rodney(-at-)centralfamily.org

This has quickly become a brand-new ministry and has already provided lots of new opportunities for our family. Please consider being a part!
