CONGRATULATIONS

Our congratulations to Bill and Sheril Townsley, who are the proud great-grandparents of a boy.  Oscar “Ozzie” Benjamin Steele was born Sunday, August 29th, weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. Parents are Andrew and Mackenzie (former member) Steele/grandparents Jack and Kay Carter (former members).

SYMPATHY

Our sympathy is extended to The Eguizabal Family (our missionaries in El Salvador). Tuesday night Carlos’ father, Luis Antonio Eguizabal Ruano, passed from this life. While he lived in Ahuachapan with his surviving wife, he was often in services in Salcoatitan and Juayua. He was a gentle man of prayer. His prayers often focused on reaching the lost. Please pray for Carlos and Linda and family during this time.

Our sympathy is also extended to Minnie Teague in the passing of her nephew, Cedric Harper, who passed away yesterday due to COVID related illness.

THANK YOU

Our sincere appreciation to our Central Family for all of your support and prayers in the passing of our dear sweet mother/grandmother. Nothing can take away the pain of our loss, but your love and support mean a lot.

Thank you also for the beautiful flowers sent.           In Christian Love,

The Crittenden

WE MISSED YOU!

Tuesday Ladies Class began September 7 at 10 a.m. focused on two questions. One is What should I do? and the better one is What should I be? For the next 9 weeks we will be examining answers from scripture each Tuesday.

Next class: God, Most Loving. Please join us; we will be looking for you! (10:00, room 113; childcare for preschool provided.)

Please see an email that was sent out earlier with details. Thank you in advance for helping our Campus Ministry.

SERVANTS NEEDED!

The communion preparation list for signing up for a month in 2021 is posted in the kitchen. Only the month of October is left. This is one of those behind-the-scenes acts-of-service that is appreciated by everyone. Questions – contact Jim Phillips 256-417-8202.

TO LIVE IS CHRIST (Series on Philippians)

The Discussion Guide for this week has been emailed to all families in which we have email addresses, or you may pick one up.

SUNDAY ADULT CLASS OPTIONS – FALL TERM 2021

September 12 through November 21

Beginning on September 12, Sunday adult classes will return to their traditional start time. Please plan to arrive before 9:00 am to be seated. Also please note that the adult classes will not be livestreamed. Instead, a Zoom link will be provided for access to an online small group. Also, for parents of preschoolers coming in person, please wait until 9:00 am to drop your children off at preschool classes so that their teachers can get situated.

1.   The Story of Redemption (Gymnasium; Coordinator: Loren Wisehart)

This series presents the biblical account of the human problem, salvation, and a new life in Jesus Christ. Beginning with creation, the class follows the “big picture” storyline of the Bible as it finds meaning and completion in Jesus.

Each week, participants are invited to arrive early for fellowship. Upon entering the gymnasium, participants will be assisted in finding a small group. After a call to order and welcome, all groups will watch a 5–10-minute video. Once the video is done, groups will read a Bible passage related to the video, discuss questions, and pray for one another. Groups will wrap up at 9:45 am in order to move chairs into place for the large assembly which begins at 10:15 am. 2.   Women’s Ministry (Library; Coordinators: Sue Underwood and Kim Story)

This class provides Bible-based content in a LIFE Talk setting and is set up to minister to women who are the head of their household and women whose husbands are not Christians. Women of all ages and situations are welcome who wish to participate in this ministry. The class is generally organized to alternate between Old Testament and New Testament books, topics, and ideas. However, prayer and sharing are also integral parts of the class. As participants begin to apply the teaching to their own lives, they are invited to openly share burdens with one another. This is so that others who have walked that path previously can share their own experience and wisdom in how to face that situation faithfully. While two ladies provide the principal oversight for the class, a number of ladies from within the class will be encouraged to lead individual sessions, usually a week or two at a time.

WEDNESDAY ADULT CLASS OPTIONS – FALL TERM 2021

September 8 through December 1 (Thanksgiving Devotional on November 24)

Beginning TONIGHT, Wednesday classes will return to a traditional classroom format at 7:00 pm. Options are provided for deep Bible study/prayer, equipping for ministry, and God’s guidance for life situations. Zoom links will be provided for online access to some of the groups. For those interested in supporting men’s and women’s ministries at that time outside of Central’s building, please contact Jim Norville and Selwyn Reynolds, respectively.

1.   Better Together (Library; Coordinator: Melinda Goad; Women only)

Bible study can seem so intimidating: with all those different genres, all that new vocabulary, and all those references. How will I even know if I understood it correctly? Wednesdays this fall, join a community of women humbly exploring the writings of 3 Old Testament prophets as we practice study methods and learn from each other. The class will require about 2 hours of independent study each week and during class time each participant will have the opportunity to share, either in person or via Zoom, what she learned. Our two-fold goal is to 1) teach each other through our growing Bible study skills and 2) develop deeper relationships as we examine challenging texts. Contact Melinda Goad to be added to the class roster. Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86546256824?pwd=ZndPSUdCUm02ZVJ1THdZVG5KWEk2QT09

2.   Generational Discipleship (Room 200; Leader: Daniel Alavi)

The Church in the West is facing a steep decline, yet the Body of Christ worldwide is thriving like never before. The center of Christianity is slowly moving towards the Global South, into areas and people groups where the church has virtually no major denominational leanings, no governmental recognition or legitimacy, no bank accounts, no 501c3s, no Bible Schools or seminaries, and no assets, properties, or buildings. In spite of this, hundreds of churches are being planted, thousands of disciples are being made, and millions are being baptized into the name of Jesus!

Within each of these growing communities of believers, you will find a deep longing to know Jesus, a personal commitment to hear and obey God's Word, and a radical pursuit to multiply. The Generational Discipleship class is designed to explore the wonderful ways God is moving throughout His people worldwide in order to equip one another for work of ministry that’s been divinely tasked to us.

3.   Raising Godly Kids (Room 113; Coordinator: Chad Dickey)

Parenting is tough even for the best dads and moms. God Himself raised “sons” like Adam (Luke 3:38) and the people of Israel (Exodus 4:23), and yet they didn’t do what they were told. Is it any surprise that it’s a struggle for us too?

Central will be offering a class on raising godly kids. The class will be facilitated by some of our younger married folks, but the primary wisdom will come from older participants in the class who know the Scriptures and come prepared to share their life experience relative to the Scriptures. Some questions will be prepared in advance, but there will be plenty of opportunity to raise additional questions that come from participants.

Topics include the following selections: 1) how to set parenting in a God-honoring context; 2) how to pass on your faith in daily life; 3) how to establish God-honoring priorities and boundaries/limits; 4) how to shape God-honoring character; 5) how to focus children on others above self; 6) how to foster purity and protect from spiritual attack; 7) how to discipline bad attitudes and behaviors; 8) how to handle children’s low moments; 9) how to deal with being angry at your children; 10) how to encourage care for extended family; 11) how to establish a godly work ethic; and 12) how to transition children into adulthood.
